A magnitude 4.9 earthquake hit Sucre, Venezuela today,
according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

An earthquake with preliminary magnitude of 4.9 struck Sucre, Venezuela (Las Palomas, Estado) today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

The quake's epicenter was about 26 km SSE of Carupano, near the Caribbean coast in northeastern Venezuela, the agency said. It was 6.1 miles deep.

Venezuela, officially called the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela, is a tropical country on the northern coast of South America which borders Colombia to the west, Guyana to the east, and Brazil to the south.

Last moderate earthquake in Sucre was on 11th february measuring 4.6 on richter scale.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.

    -A 57 old woman died at evacuation center in Sabeto. She was patient of Daibetes.
    -Navo Bridge washed away by flood water. It was only the way from Nadi town or the Nadi International Airport from Queens Highway going towards Nadi from Suva.
    -Recent heavy rainfall is caused by a shallow tropical depression located west-southwest of Nadi. Click for detail update on this flood

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Earlier it was forecast that tropical storm Pakhar will continue as Cat 1 (Hurricane) till April 1st BUT by late today (March 31st), it is forecast to weaken to a tropical storm (one step below).
    It will make landfall (TS) first in Phan Thiet city of Vietnam by late today.

Natural Disaster News
  • Strong winds in Urumqi city of China killed three people and injured twenty one so far. Wall collapsed in West Karamay Road and killed two people.
    The regional meteorological center issued an orange wind alert, with winds of at least 80 km/hr forecast for the suburbs of Urumqi. Forty-two flights in the Urumqi International Airport were delayed, re-routed or canceled by the winds.
  • Forest fire near to Geraldine, Montana, USA burned 2,500 acres. There are no reports of any injuries or damaged structures.

Update

-$1.2M cost of agriculture damages is expected by flooding in Sigatoka
-The livestock damages are estimated at $108,000


Update April 5, 2012
 
-Two more dead bodies found today, making death toll at six so far. Two bodies were found floating in Waimanu River.
-More than 14,000 people are still taking shelter in different evacuation centers in Fiji.


Update 12:50 UTC

-Flood waters have started receding in Western Division and parts of Rewa.
-According to government officials in Fiji, all schools in the Central and Eastern Division will resume classes tomorrow.


Update April 3, 2012
 
-More than 11,000 people are taking shelter in 50 evacuation centres.
-Emergency packs with first aid kits, blankets and cooking utensils will be distributed those at Semo Village.

Power has been restored in Rakiraki and Ba.


Update

Nadi Weather Office has named the tropical cyclone in West South West of Nadi as "Daphne". A gale warning is issued in Viti Levu, Yasawa and Mamanuca group, Southern Lau group, Kadavu and nearby smaller islands. Daphne is currently moving South East at about 25 km/hr.
Severe flood is again expected in Viti Levu.


Update April 2, 2012

-Due to heavy rainfall, Vaturu Dam in Nadi overflowed causing flash flood.
-Several roads flooded. Kings Highway Wailotua and Naqia Bridges are still closed. While there is good news that earlier flooded Queens highway is now accessible.

-Recent landslides in Central Fiji destroyed power lines.

-One more body found in Nadi river. Now, the death toll by Fiji flood rises to three.
-Following recent official report, the water level in Rewa River in Nausori has reached 4.58 meters, a critical point.
-About 100 people are taking shelter in Mission school in Sigatoka.

Several air pacific flights to Nadi have been cancelled for tomorrow (April 2). Flights from Tarawa, Auckland, Sydney, Brisbane and Auckland to Nadi have been cancelled.

Update

Tropical cyclone Alert is issued in Fiji. Following the Nadi Weather Office, a tropical depression was located about 1,200 kilometres West North West of Nadi. It is expected to become a tropical cyclone in the next 24 hours.

-Today, the government of Fiji issued an "urgent" message to people living near the Rewa River to move to high ground. Rewa River has burst its banks in a number of areas.

-All schools in the Western Division will remain closed from tomorrow until Thursday

-500 residents are currently living in the 14 evacuation centres in Lautoka.

-Waima bridge in Vunidawa, Waila bridge at Natavea road, and Vatuwaqa bridge at Monasavu road are all under water.
-Another problem can be vandalism or looting in affected area.

-57 people are taking shelter in 5 evacuation centers in Rakiraki
-Heavy rainfall in Rakiraki
-Water level in Rewa and Navua river is in peak. Following officials, as of 7 pm (local time) the water level at the Rewa river is 3.5 meters.

-People living in low living areas near Rewa river have started to move to high grounds
-Heavy rainfall in Sigatoka. Flash flood expected
-Togomasi Bridge collapsed due to flood water in Qeleloa Nadi

-Semo bridge in Sigatoka is closed due to flooding.
Korotogo road in Sigatoka and Baleinaga and Naqia bridge in the King Roads is also closed
-Nine schools in Ba have been opened as evacuation centers for the flood victims. Ba is one of the worst affected areas so far.

Severe Flash flood reported in Fiji Islands today. The floods have cut off access to highways and forced evacuations.
At the moment serious situation is in Nadi region. Nadi is the third-largest conurbation in Fiji which is located on the western side of the main island of Viti Levu.
Heavy rains have caused rivers to burst their banks in the west of the main island Viti Levu.
The Fire Service used boats to evacuated people. Flood affected people are living in 11 evacuation centers in different parts of the Islands.
Following fijireporter, hundreds of people have been stranded on their rooftops in Nadi.
Different flights  to and from Nadi have been cancelled.
Recent heavy rainfall is caused by a shallow tropical depression located west-southwest of Nadi.

  • Wildfire in Jefferson, Colorado
    -Two killed and one injured by wildfire in the mountains southwest of Denver. Both the fatalities are above 75
    -One woman is said to be missing whose house is already destroyed by fire. Rescue team of 32 members with 6 dogs are searching the woman
    -More than 180 families evacuated as a precaution
    -More than 500 firefighters along with 4 helicopters fighting the blaze
    -The fire is 45 percent contained
  • Storm in Kathmandu, Nepal
    -Heavy dust storm, thundering, lightning with moderate rainfall reported in Kathmandu, Nepal
    -Wind blew off roof of several houses
    -The dust storm made the visibility very poor
    -Windstorm is among the major natural disaster in Nepal

    -Following Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), around 12:45 p.m. (local time) today, a tornado hit Ipil-ipil St, Bacolod city
    -Bacolod city shopping center damaged along with slight damage reported to Bacolod Chambers building
    -Bacolod Chamber Rescue team working on the area
    -No casualty reported
  • Flooding in Caldwell, Texas
    -Heavy rainfall caused flash flood in Caldwell
    -High water was reported in Bank streets along with railroad underpass
    -Water entered into some motels and houses

    -3 killed with two other missing in Sorsogon, Camarines Sur and Catanduanes
    -At least 500 people affected by flooding in Oriental Mindoro
    -Flash flood hit the parts of Calapan City and the towns of Naujan, Mansalay, and Baco
    -In December 11, 2005, Calapan City was hit by tropical depression Quedan and heavy moonson rains which result in massive flooding
    -Flooding is among the most common natural disasters in Philippines

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Tropical depression Pakhar/02w, located approximately 340 nm east of Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam, has tracked north-northwestward at 04 knots over the past six hours.
    Torrential rainfall and high winds expected in south-central coast of Vietnam by Saturday.

Recent Natural Disasters
  • Flooding in Philippines
    -At least four people drown in flood water which occurred after heavy rainfall. Worst flood hit areas are Catanduanes, Albay, Camarines Sur and Camarines Norte province of Philippines
    -Following Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), flooding also occurred in Naujan, Baco, Mansalay and Calapan city, mindoro affecting 23 barangays, due to continuous rains brought by Low Pressure Area (LPA)
    -175 persons were affected in Brgys. Pinagsabangan and Barcenaga, Naujan while 110 persons were affected in Brgy. Bucayao, Calapan city and 85 persons were affected in Baco all in Oriental Mindoro
    -Power outage reported in Sitio Lungos, Brgy. Sta. Rita and Calapan area
    -Heavy rainfall along with possible landslide and flooding expected in Southern Quezon, Northern Samar, Panay Island, Northern Negros and Bicol region

    Update
    -Three killed, including a six years old child after drowning in flood water
    -Two still missing which include one fisherman who is supposed to be missing since 20 march 2012.
    -Four others were rescued. One 67  years old man was rescued near the Burias Island, Masbate.
    -Landslide reported in Catbalogan, Samar. Officials warned residents to evacuate the area but the residents refused to.
    -Still rain showers and thunderstorms forecast to the eastern sections of Northern and Central Luzon, Southern Luzon and Visayas becoming widespread rains over Southern Quezon, Northern Samar, Panay Island, Northern Negros and Bicol region.

  • M 3.1 weak shallow earthquake in Armenia (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km S Yerevan. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Yerevan.

  • M 4.5 moderate shallow earthquake in Oaxaca, Mexico (@ 9 km depth) with epicenter located 11 km E Pinotepa de don luis. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt in Pinotepa nacional  and Pinotepa de don luis area. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Oaxaca.

  • M 4.5 moderate very shallow earthquake in Pakistan (@ 4 km depth) with epicenter located 17 km S Kalat. The populated area Khuzdar is 120 km far where weak shaking will have felt.

    -Looking past 24 hours activity, Seismic tremor levels were low; gas emissions were elevated

    -The most recent (preliminary) sulfur dioxide emission rate measurement was 400 tonnes/day on March 27, 2012

Flooding List
  • Flooding in Ontario, Canada
    -Several evacuated people have started returning their home
    -$25 million emergency fund was announced by the provincial government for flood victims
    -Northeastern Ontario (along the James Bay coastline) are forecast to have cooler weather for the next five days, with temperatures remaining well below zero
    -Floods are the most costly natural disasters in Canada

  • Forest fire reported in 13 different places across Swansea and Neath Port Talbot, Wales (United kingdom). A roof and garage at a house  reported to be damaged. There was a power cut in 20 houses in neighbouring Woodmans Terrace as a safety measure. Forests Fires are among the natural disasters that cause big losses to both human and materials.

Update
Several houses reported to be damaged in Taplejung. Earlier M 6.8 very strong earthquake in Nepal/Sikkim area damaged 100+ houses in Taplejung of Nepal.
The houses which already developed cracks/damage during Nepal/Sikkim earthquake are reported to damaged by this quake.
Preliminary data reports dozens of houses damaged (partially) with five houses totally destroyed.

Update
Nepal seismological center mentions earthquake with magnitude 5.2 in Jhapa-India border region.
Data by USGS: M 5.0 @ 40 km in Nepal/India border region
Indian seismological center: M 4.9 @ 12 km depth.

Update
Earthquake tremor was well felt in Taplejung, Panchthar, Illam, Jhapa, Saptari, Siraha, Morang, Sunsari and other parts of Nepal and several parts of West Bengal and Bihar of India.

M 5.0 moderate earthquake rocks Nepal-India border region (Rauta @ 40 km depth) today with epicenter located 16 km S Bahadurganj. The epicenter was 63 km South of Biratnagar, Nepal.
Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Biratnagar, Dharan, Ilam of Nepal side and Sikkim and Shilīguri region of India.
Following USGS, weak shaking will have experienced as far Nepal's capital Kathamndu and Dinajpur, Bangladesh.
This was the time when people of Nepal and India were in their bed.
The exact epicenter location is in India close to east of Nepal, Biratnagar. Biratnagar is a sub-metropolitan city in southeast Nepal. It is located at the border with India and is therefore a major center for trade and commerce with India.
Indian seismological center mentions earthquake of slight intensity of magnitude 4.7 at 12 km depth in Nepal/India border.
No damage or injury reported.

Surat, India: Alarm at 5:05 started ringing and i switched phone off,i again laid on the bed .Suddenly i feel the tremor which lasted for approx 10 sec . To conferm myself i shaked the bed but it was not like previous one
