-Emergencies declared in Maryland, West Virginia, Ohio, the District of Columbia and Virginia.
-Following related officials, at least a week will take to restore power to all customers. The storm disaster was called a derecho, a straight-line wind storm that sweeps over a large area at high speed. It can produce tornado-like damage.
-President Obama telephoned the governors of Ohio, West Virginia, Maryland and Virginia, all of whom declared states of emergency. According to Gov. Bob McDonnell of Virginia, his state had suffered the largest “non-hurricane power outage” in its history.

What is a Derecho?
-Derecho in the Spanish language means "straight". Derechoes are large clusters of thunderstorms that produce widespread wind damage, usually as a result of one or more curved lines of thunderstorms known as bow echoes.
Derechoes are the most active during the late spring and summer.

Following Utilities or state emergency agencies, following outages and damage are reported:

*Maryland: About 869,000 customers without power with outages reported in every county.

*West Virginia: More than 600,000 customers without power.

*Ohio: Power out across two-thirds of state, about 1 million homes and businesses without electricity, and one storm-related death reported. Governor John Kasich said power could take a week to be restored fully.

*New Jersey: Atlantic County declared a state of emergency, and at least 206,000 customers were without power. Two cousins, aged 2 and 7, were killed by a falling tree in state park.

*District of Columbia: 67,000 power customers affected. State of emergency declared.

*Pennsylvania: 32,500 homes and businesses without power.

*Indiana: 135,000 customers with power lost.

*Kentucky: 187 customers without power.

*North Carolina: 618 homes and businesses with power lost.



The Hurricane of 1900, the deadliest hurricane in US history and the second costliest hurricane in US history, killed around 12,000 people.

  • Massive flooding in China

    -At least 50 killed and more than 60 are still missing in China floods.
    -More than 10.4 million people are affected by downpours in 399 counties in Inner Mongolia, Zhejiang, Fujian, Jiangxi, Hubei, Hunan, Guangdong, Guangxi, Chongqing, Sichuan and Guizhou province.
    -Heavy rainfall since June 20 has damaged more than 90,000 houses.

-Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) has estimated that Doksuri may cause “heavy to intense” rainfall of 15 to 25 millimetre per hour within its 400 kilometre diameter.
-Storm signal number 1 issued in Cagayan, Calayan Group of Islands, Babuyan Group of Islands, Isabela, Batanes Group of Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, Ilocos Norte, Abra and Mt Province of Philippines. Doksuri (local name: Dindo) is the fourth weather disturbance to hit Philippines this year.

Tropical Storm Doksuri in Taiwan
-Following Taiwan Weather Bureau, Doksuri is expected to bring significant rainfall to Pingtung and Taitung counties.
-Doksuri is likely to cross the Bashi Channel between the Philippines and Taiwan and head to China without hitting Taiwan directly.

Tropical Storm Doksuri in China
-Tropical storm Doksuri is forecast to strike China at about 02:00 GMT on 30 June.Data supplied by theUS Navy and Air Force Joint Typhoon Warning Center suggest that the point of landfall will be near 22.2 N, 115.0 E.
-Doksuri is expected to bring 1-minute maximum sustained winds to the region of around101 km/h (63 mph)

    Flood water in Leicestershire: Source BBC
    -One person killed in flooding in Shropshir, England. Body was found in a stream in Bitterley near Ludlow.
    -Six people were rescued in south Shropshire from their cars by the fire service.
    -Haistorms also reported in the East Midlands.
    -Both main rail lines between Scotland and England reported to be blocked by landslides.
    - Dozens of schools in the West Midlands were closed due to storms and flash floods.
    -Currently there are 48 flood alerts across the Midlands, North East and North West.
    -The Environment Agency has also issued a Flood Alert for the River Tyne from Hexham to Wylam and its tributaries.

-According to Weather officials, more heavy rain is expected in the next few days.

People of following area will have felt light to weak shaking.
Ahuachapan, Moyuta, Concepcion de Ataco, Tacuba, Conguaco, San Francisco Menendez, San Salvador, Villa Nueva, Guatemala City, Mixco and San Pedro Sula. Did you feel it?

M 5.7 strong earthquake rocks Guatemala and El Salvador today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the quake's epicenter was located just 4 km WNW of Tacuba. It was 100 miles deep.

It will have felt in vast area (common in case of deep earthquake).
The 1976 Guatemala earthquake which was located 160 km northeast of Guatemala City killed 23,000 people. It was a 7.5 Mw earthquake, centered in the Motagua Fault.

Ralph Bower from Guatemala City: Was awakened from sleep, both wife and I, and experienced significant shaking and rolling. This was by far the strongest quake we have felt since arriving here on March 10. No falling items or damage noticeable.

  VERY HEAVY RAIN CONTINUING ACROSS THE WARNING AREA. A PERSISTENT
  BAND OF HEAVY RAIN EXTENDED FROM SUWANNEE COUNTY EASTWARD ACROSS
  COLUMBIA...BAKER...SOUTHERN CHARLTON...NASSAU...AND NORTHERN DUVAL.
  THIS BAND IS YIELDING RAINFALL RATES OF ONE TO TWO INCHES PER
  HOUR...OVER AN AREA THAT HAS RECEIVED 6 TO 10 INCHES OF RAIN.
  AN ADDITIONAL 2 TO 4 INCHES OF RAIN IS EXPECTED THROUGH 5 AM ACROSS
  A LARGE PART OF THE WARNING AREA. SIGNIFICANT FLOODING IS EXPECTED
