M5.2 earthquake in Dolakha halts election vote counting

December 8, 2017: An earthquake measuring 5.2 on the Richter Scale hit Dolakha at 08:36 am local time, the Nepal Seismological Center reported.

The earthquake occurred at shallow depth of 10 km, around 83 km east of Capital Kathmandu. It was very close to the district's headquarter Jiri.

The tremor temporarily halted the election vote counting in Dolakha and Sindhupalchowk. Nepal recently organised Legislative elections in two phases on 26 November and 7 December 2017.

The tremor was felt as far as Kathmandu and adjoining districts. No major damage or injuries have been reported.

This is reported as an aftershock of 2015 Gorkha earthquake
