Recent Natural Disasters
  • Landslide in Gansu Province, China
    -Four killed in a landslide in Yuzhong county, Lanzhou city of China.
    -More than 85 people evacuated from the threat of possible landslide.
    -Two People were killed when landslide rocked a village in Xingang (Shanxii), China on April 1st.
    -The 2010 Gansu mudslide was a deadly mudslide in Zhugqu County in Gannan TAP in China which killed more than 1,471 people.

  • M 4.8 moderate earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan Region (@ 94 km depth) with epicenter located 36 km SE Yubari. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Tomakomai and Sapporo.

  • M 2.9 minor shallow earthquake in Oklahoma  (@ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 29 km NNW of Shawnee. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Meeker, Wellston, Carney, Harrah, Mustang and Choctaw. Weak shaking will have experienced by the people of Oklahoma City too.   • M 5.4 moderate earthquake in Central Peru (@ 91 km depth) with epicenter located 62 km S Sicuani. Just a weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Cusco (Cuzco), Juliaca and Arequipa, Peru.

  • M 5.0 moderate earthquake in Iran-Iraq Border Region (@ 40 km depth) with epicenter located 69 km N of Al `Amarah. Light to weak shaking will have experienced by the people of Dehloran  and Al-'amarah. Yesterday dozens of moderate earthquakes rocked Iran-Iraq border region.

  • M 6.6 massive earthquake near the North Coast of Papua, Indonesia (@ 16 km depth) with epicenter located 83 km SSE of Manokwari. About 4,000 people will have felt severe shaking of MMI VIII. Light shaking will have widely felt. People of Manokwari will have felt strong shaking of MMI VI. In Nabire region of  Indonesia, light shaking will have experienced. No Tsunami warning issued.

  • Mexico/Popocatepetl recent volcanic activity
    Popocatepetl Volcano; Source  AFP
    -Rocks and lava spewed by Popocatepetl volcano of Mexico.
    -After first eruption, more eruptions were again at 5.05am, with at least 12 eruptions in two hours.
    -People in Xalitzintla are in HIGH ALERT as evacuation order can be issued any time.
    -10 masks and 10 bottles of water are provided to to each family near the site.
    -The ash continues to blow to the northeast, in the general direction of Puebla.

Flooding List
  • Flooding in Oman Region, United Arab Emirates
    -Six killed in flash flood in Oman caused after heavy rainfall.
    -Among the fatalities, two were Omanis, two Pakistanis and two Emiratis.
  • Flooding in Jakarta, Indonesia
    -Heavy rainfall caused flooding in Tangerang border in Bintaro and Bumi Serpong Damai region.
    -Road which connects satellite suburbs Serpong and Parung to Jakarta remain closed.
    -Rainfall and flooding is forecast to continue this month.
  • Flooding in North Richmond, California
    -Minor flood warning issued for North Richmond.
    -Hawkesbury River level is expected to peak near 4.3 meters today.

  • Wildfire in Mongolia
    -Wildfire reported in Zhawen river area in the Greater Hinggan Mountains.
    -More than 1,000 firefighters are controlling the fire.
  • Heat wave in Uttar Pradesh, India
    -Hot wind and dust storms in different parts of Uttar Pradesh.
    -Temperature is around 40 degree Celsius for the last three days.
    -Due to dust storm, several shops remain closed in the afternoon.
