Recent Natural Disasters
  • Landslide in Oko Community of Nigeria
    -About 150 people are said to be homeless in a landslide in Oko Community of Anambra.
    -Around 15 houses reported to be totally destroyed. However, no life lost in the disaster.
    -Following the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), the landslide also affected Obosi, Nanka, Ozobulu and other communities of the state.
    -Oko is among the developing cities of Nigeria and is situated in the coastal regions of Nigeria.
  • Flooding in Assam, India
    -Latest flooding in Assam affects Barpeta, Darrang and Dhubri district.
    -Hundreds of families at Maripur Anandpur village of Bajali evacuated.
    -Sol erosion reported in Dhubri district on the banks of Gauranga river, a tributary of the Brahmaputra.

  • M 6.1 strong earthquake in Luzon, Philippines (@ 35 k depth) today with epicenter located 94 km SW of Dagupan. About 7,726,000 people will have felt light shaking. People of Bani, Bolitoc, Lipay, Taltal, Palauig and Lucapon will have felt light shaking of MMI IV. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Manila, Makati, Pasig, Angeles, Tabuk and Kabugao.   • M 3.8 light very shallow earthquake in Georgia (Sak'art'velo @ 5 km depth) with epicenter located 23 km S Kaspi. It will well felt by the people of Tbilisi, Manglisi and Kaspi.

  • M 3.8 light earthquake in Assam, India (@ 33 km depth) with epicenter located 8 km far from Puranigudam, Nagaon. It will have well felt by the people of Borgolai Grant, Kampur, Bahbari and Dokmoka. Click for recent earthquakes in India.

  • M 3.0 light shallow earthquake in Bulgaria (@ 8 km depth) with epicenter located just below Batanovci. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Pernik and Sofia. Around 50 people were injured in earlier Pernik-Sofia, Bulgaria quake.

    -Some residents of Batanovtsi and Pernik ran out of their homes in a panic. However no damage or injury reported. 
  • M 4.9 moderate earthquake in Peru-Ecuador Border Region (@ 58 km depth) with epicenter located 280 km ESE of Riobamba. Just a weak shaing will have felt by the people of Nueva Loja, Orellana, Riobamba and Ambato.

  • M 3.7 light earthquake in Island of Hawaii, Hawaii (@ 16 km depth) with epicenter located 14 km WSW from Puako. Weak shaking of MMI II will have felt by the people of Kalaoa, Waikoloa Village, Kailua-Kona, Holualoa, Waimea, HonaloCaptain Cook, Hilo, Kahului, Kihei, Wailuku and Lahaina.

Flooding List
  • Flooding in Cannon Falls
    -Flood damaged the roof of a community center and computer labs at Cannon Falls High School.
    -Around 20 homes were evacuated immediately.
    -Heavy storms also caused damage in southern Goodhue County, near the areas of Kenyon Township, Cherry Grove Township and Wanamingo.
    -River waters are receding in Cannon Falls (see video below by yahoo). Cannon Falls is a city in Goodhue County, Minnesota, United States.
  • Flooding in Wales
    -Flood warning issued for for the north Gwynedd catchment, Glaslyn and Dwyryd, Maddawch and Wnion, and the Upper Towy.
    -Yellow warning alert for the heavy rainfall across Wales up until midnight on Saturday.

  • Tornadoes in Saskatchewan, Canada


    -Three tornadoes confirmed in Plover Lake, north of Biggar and Wilkie.
    -No damage or injury reported.
    -Now all tornado warnings in Saskatchewan have ended.

Tropical Cyclone List
  • Hurricane Carlotta
    -Carlotta has slowly weakening as it moves along the southern coast  of Mexico. Now, heavy rainfall is occurring over the coastal mountains.
    -As of 06:00 UTC, Carlotta was located 200 km E of Acapulco Mexico.
    -A Hurricane Warning is in effect for the Pacific coast of Mexico from Salina cruz to Punta Maldonado. Similarly a Hurricane Watch is in effect for Punta Maldonado to Acapulco.

  • Typhoon Guchol
    -As of 06:00 UTC, Typhoon (TY) 05w (Guchol) is located approximately 565 nm east of Manila, Philippines with maximum winds of 120 kilometers per hour near the center.
    -Gulchol (Butchoy) is expected to bring rains over Luzon and Visayas especially over the western section which may trigger flashfloods and landslides.
    -No public storm signals raised in Philippines.
    -It is forecast to be 590 kilometers east southeast of Casiguran, Aurora by Sunday morning.

  • Heavy rainstorms in South China
    -Heavy rainfall is forecast by China meteorological authority in South China.
    -Rainstorm expected in Yunnan and Hainan provinces from Saturday to Monday.
  • Fifty nine aftershocks in Hualien, Taiwan
    -About 59 aftershocks recorded in Hualien region of Taiwan within 11 hours.
    -Following the Central Weather Bureau, more moderate to strong aftershocks can be expected in eastern Taiwan over the next two weeks.
  • Insurance cover for flooding 'must be speedy'
    Claims for flood damage should be dealt with by insurers quickly and as clearly as possible, an ombudsman has warned. The Financial Ombudsman Service said it had seen a "notable" increase in complaints about flood insurance over the past two years.
