Recent Natural Disasters
  • Flooding in Cape Town, South Africa
    Flooded roads across Cape Town; Source EWN
    -More than 30 places across cape Town reported to be flooded including Rondebosch, Bonteheuwel and Crawford.
    -Following Disaster management spokesperson of Cape Town, around 15 vehicles were removed from the flooded area. Four people injured in Mew Way and Spine road in cape Town.
    -Evacuation order issued for the River Club in Observatory lying next to the Liesbeeck River. More than 60 people were evacuated from the flooded area.
    -Heavy thunderstorms are forecast for Gauteng and Mpumalanga.
    -Massive KwaZulu-Natal-South Africa floods in 1995 killed 154 peoples.

  • M 3.5 light shallow earthquake in Southern Italy (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 5 km NW Palestrina (Castelli Romani area). It will have well felt by the people of Montecompatri, Colonna and Monte Porzio including Rome. Rome, the capital city of Italy  lies just 18 km far from the epicenter.

  • M 5.6 strong earthqake in Eastern Mediterranean Sea (@ 47 km depth) with epicenter located 83 km SSW of Kalkan. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Kas, Archangelos, Lardos, Afantou, Faliraki, Rodos and Fethiye.   • M 2.9 weak shallow aftershocks in Bulgaria (@ 2 km depth) with epicenter located 2 km SW Batanovci. It will have well felt by the people of Radomir  and Sofia.

  • M 4.3 light earthquake in Northern Colombia (@ 41 km depth) with epicenter located 14 km W of Matanza. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Bucaramanga, Giron and Floridablanca.

  • M 4.6 moderate earthquake in Hokkaido, Japan (@ 87 km depth) with epicenter located 60 km ESE of Shizunai. Just a weak shaking will have felt by the people of Shizunai , Obihiro, Otofuke and Tomakomai.

Light to weak shaking will have felt by the poeple of Hidden Valley Lake, Middletown, Kelseyville, Lower Lake, Cloverdale, Santa Rosa, Vallejo, Antioch, Fairfield, Vacaville, Calistoga, Pope Valley, Sonoma, Carmichael and San Francisco.

Flooding List
  • Flooding in Gilgit, Pakistan
    -More than 20 houses destroyed in Ghizer area of Pakistan.
    -The bridge connecting Gilgit district to Chitral in the nullah washed away.
    -Popular Shandoor Festival also affected by floods.
  • Flooding in Russia
    -Death toll from Russian flood has risen to 171.
    -About 159 people killed in and around Krymsk.
    -There was rumor that flooding was caused by overflow of water from nearby dam.
    -Russian President Vladimir Putin declared today (Monday) a national day of mourning.

  • Hurricane Daniel
    -As of 00:05 UTC, Hurricane Daniel was lcated 1800 km WSW of the southern tip of Baja California.
    -Daniel is a category two hurricane on the Saffir-Simpson hurricane wind scale.
  • Tropical Storm Emilia
    -As of 00:05 UTC, TS Emilia was located 910 km SSW of Manzanillo  and about1305 km SSE of the southern tip of Baja California.
    Update 16:00 UTC
    Emilia has strengthened to a Category Two hurricane in the Pacific far off the coast of Mexico but is not posing a threat to land.

  • Colorado's Waldo Canyon fire
    -Colorado fire is now 98% contained.
    -Still two houses on Harbor Pine evacuated due to water damage and gas service issues.
    -A flash flood warning issued for El Paso county.
  • Tornado in Spotsylvania, Virginia
    -Tornado destroyed two houses in Fleming street (Four-Mile Fork area).
    -At least four reported to be injured.
    -Nearly 250 lightning struck at the station on the Fredericksburg campus.
