Recent Natural Disasters
  • Major Avalanche on Mount Manaslu, Nepal
    -Nine killed and 13 injured in an avalanche in Mount Manaslu, Gorkha district of Nepal.
    -Among the dead are French and German tourists.
    -The avalanche took place at the 2 and 3 number base camp around 04:30 AM Sunday morning.
    -Rescue teams have reached from Kathmandu on Simrik, Fishtail and Mountain Air helicopters to the disaster area.
    -Manaslu is a very steep, sharp peak and also the eighth highest mountain in the world.  Mt. Manaslu is the 4th most dangerous 8000m peak in the World behind Annapurna, Nanga Parbat, and K2.   • M 4.7 moderate earthquake in Philippine Islands region (@ 38 km depth) with epicenter 133 km NE of Anito. Weak shaking of MMI II-III will have felt by the people of Laoang, Pambujan and Catarman.

  • M 4.3 light deep earthquake in Peru-Brazil Border Region (@ 149 km depth) with epicenter located 65 km ENE of Pucallpa. Just a weak shaking of MMI II will have felt around epicenter area.

  • Typhoon Jelawat
    As of 03:00 UTC, Typhoon Jelawat was located  485 nm east-southeast of Manila, Philippines.
    -At least three flights cancelled to and from Manila.
    -Several people rescued from flooding in Sorsogon, Allen and Dapdap.
  • Tropical Storm Miriam
    -As of 03:00 UTC, TS Miriam was located 900 km S of the southern tip of Baja California.
    - Miriam is moving toward the northwest near 12 mph. No threat to land.

  • Strong storms in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania
    -One injured and several houses damaged in strong storms in Wellsboro, Pennsylvania.
  • Peru earthquake prediction!
    -There is rumor among the Peruvians that a extreme earthquake will hit the country this week.
    -It is not the first time, earlier two Russian scientists predict the earthquake to hit Friday (last but went wrong). Several links are even posted on godlike production (GLP) site that a quake will hit Peru between September 23 to September 28.
