  • Very strong earthquake in Yunnan, China
    -M 5.6 very strong earthquake in Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Region, China (@ 10 km depth) with epicenter located just 8 km SSE of Jiaokui. Moderate to light shaking will have felt by the people of Zhaotong and Weining. People of Xunchang, Bijie, Yibin and Xichang will have felt weak shaking of MMI II-III (Image China news).
    Update 1
    -Another 5.6 very strong earthquake in Sichuan-Yunnan-Guizhou Region, China after one hour with epicenter close to Jiaokui.
    Update 2
    -Five killed and 20 other reported to be injured.
    -More than 20 000 houses damaged or collapsed.
    -The quakes also caused landslides and cut an electric power line in Yiliang.
    Update 3
    -89 people killed and hundreds other injured.
    -Landslide blocked roads across Yunnan province.

  • Flooding in Katsina, Nigeria
    -Seven killed in recent floods in Safana, Mani and Daura local government areas of Katsina, Nigeria.
    -Floods also destroyed thousand houses and 146 farms in Kusada area.
    -Mai’adua, Kusada, Kurfi, Batsari, Safana, Jibia, Katsina and Bindawa are the area to be worst hit.
    -Displaced people are taking shelter in Randawa village of Mani local government area in a primary school compound.
    -Flood also destroyed 236 houses in Benue state.

  • M 4.5 moderate aftershocks in Costa Rica (@ 43 km depth) with epicenter located 13 km WSW of Canas. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Liberia, Nicoya and Santa Cruz.

  • Flash floods in Bolgatanga, Guinea
    -One killed in flash floods in Dacheo Community of Bolgatanga Municipality, Guinea, Africa.
    -Flood also affected the parts of Sawaba, Dagmweo, Pobaga and part of Tindomolgo.

    -As of 15:00 UTC, TS Leslie was located 660 km SSE of Bermuda.
    -Leslie weakens to a tropical storm but forecast to regain hurricane strength.
    -A tropical storm watch is in effect for Bermuda.
  • Hurricane Michael
    -As of 15:00 UTC, hurricane Michael was located 1495 km WSW of the Azores.
    -Michael is moving toward the northwest near 3 mph. No threat to land.

  • Dust storms in Phoenix, Arizona
    -Heavy dust storms caused delays in flights in Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport.
    -More than six people were rescued in Tucson.
