  • Cold wave in Uttar Pradesh, India
    -At least 26 people died in the last 24 hours because of the extreme cold in Uttar Pradesh region of India.
    -Fatalities are from Basti, Jaunpur, Ballia, Mirzapur, Varanasi, Bhadohi and Chandauli.
    -All schools and colleges in Lucknow are closed till January 5, 2013.
    -All major trains from the capital Delhi to Lucknow are running slow due to dense fog.
    -Several flights to and from Lucknow were cancelled.

  • Flooding in Mannaar, Sri Lanka
    -At least 5,134 people became homeless due to floods in Mannaar district of Sri Lanka.
    -Following the Mannaar Disaster Management Unit, displaced people are taking shelter in Nanaaddan Maha Vidiyalayam.
    -Transport from Kugnchuk-kul'am village in Madu DS division to other areas is cut off  due to heavy flood water overflowing from Aruvi Aaru.

  • M 4.7 moderate shallow earthquake Offshore Libertador O'higgins, Chile (@ 12 km depth) with epicenter located 60 km SW of San Antonio. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Cartagena, Melipilla, Santa Cruz, Conchalí, Renca, Santiago, Vitacura and Viña del Mar.

Recent Tropical Cyclones
  • Tropical Cyclone Four
    -As of 12:00 UTC, TC Four was located 250 nm southeast of cape guardafui, Somalia.
    -Tropical storm Four is forecast to hit Somalia at about 18:00 GMT on 24 December.
