  • Flooding in Jakarta, Indonesia
    -Four killed in floods in Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia.
    -At least 20,000 people were evacuated due to massive flooding in Jakarta. Evacuated people are living in 14 different emergency shelters.
    -Heavy downpour caused the rivers to overflow and triggered floods up to three metres (10 feet) in Jakarta (Photo: AP/Achmad Ibrahim).

    -Now death toll from Jakarta floods has risen to 11.
    -Death toll from Jakarta flood 2013 has risen to 5.
    -A state of emergency is in effect until Jan. 27, 2013.
    -The Indonesian Meteorological Agency said heavy rains are expected in the Jakarta region for the next three days. Related natural disasters:

  • M 4.9 moderate earthquake in Mindanao, Philippines (@ 52 km depth) with epicenter located 43 km ENE of Pondaguitan. People of  Mati, Lupon, Manay, Davao City and Santa Cruz will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 3.6 light shallow earthquake in Central California (@ 6 km depth) with epicenter located just 18 km SSE from Weldon. It will have well felt by the people of town of Lake Isabella, Onyx, Ridgecrest and Caliente.

  • M 5.5 moderate deep sea quake in Alamagan Reg., Northern Mariana Islands (@ 124 km depth) with epicenter located 81 km SSE from Pagan. Just a weak shaking of MMI III will have felt by the people of Saipan and Hagatna.

  • M 4.7 moderate earthquake in Southern Peru (@ 74 km depth) with epicenter located 21 km SSW of Ayaviri. Light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Azangaro, Juliaca and Atuncolla.

  • Microsoft has launched a cross-platform natural disaster apps powered by Windows Azure called HelpBridge. This natural disaster app allows to ask for help as well as offer help in case of a natural disaster. HelpBridge is currently available on Android, iOS and Windows Phone platforms but only in the US.
