M 4.6 moderate earthquake shakes Western Turkey today, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

According to the USGS, the quake's epicenter was 112 km N of Sile and 136 km N of Istanbul. It was 11 miles deep.

Looking intensity and epicenter location, light to weak shaking will have felt by the people of Sile, Istanbul, Boyalik and Sisli.

Magnitude 7.2 earthquake in Istanbul in 1509 (The Lesser Judgment Day) killed 10,000 people.

Earthquake prediction in Istanbul
According to the Professor Okan Tuysuz, director of the Eurasia Institute of Earth Sciences, there is a 65%, a high probability that magnitude 7.6 earthquake will hit Istanbul by 2030.

Istanbul lies 20 km north of the North Anatolian Fault, which is famous for magnitude 7 or greater earthquake every century.
