Sinkhole in Florida swallows man

A sinkhole in Florida has swallowed a man. Sinkhole opened under the bedroom of a house near Tampa.


A sinkhole in Florida of size 30 feet wide and 20 feet deep has swallowed a man. Sinkhole disaster occurred around 11:00 p.m. Thursday night near Tampa, Florida.

A 36-year-old man, Jeff Bush, remains trapped under the sinkhole.

Following Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokeswoman Jessica Damico, the entire house is on the sinkhole. The bedroom area is expected to be the center of the sinkhole. Although rescue crews lowered listening devices and cameras into the hole but they didn't get any action from Bush.

Florida is prone to sinkholes and has frequent sinkholes in the United States. Sinkholes are also common in Texas, Alabama, Florida, Missouri, Kentucky, Tennessee and Pennsylvania in United States. Kingsley Lake in North Central Florida is thought to have formed as a sinkhole (source Wikipedia).

What after a sinkhole opens?

  • Immediately contact homeowners insurance company if your home (property) is under threat.
