Recent Natural Disasters
  • Cyclone Mahasen in Sri Lanka
    -Flooding caused by the cyclone Mahasen in Sri Lanka has claimed lives of at least seven people.
    -Following Sri Lankan Disaster Management Centre, still two people are missing.
    -The National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) has warned of possible landslides in Ratnapura, Matale, Galle, Kalutara, Kurunegala, Kegalle, Nuwara Eliya and Badulla districts of Sri Lanka. Click for detail report on Sri Lankan cyclone Mahasen.
  • Hailstorms in Kakheti, Georgia
    -Hails have destroyed agricultural lands in Kakheti region of Georgia.
    -Severe hailstorm damages are reported in Bakurtsikhe, Vejini, Kardenakhi and Kolagi.
    -Flooding has also been reported in Dzirkoki. Hailstorms in Georgia in April 2013 caused huge damage.
  • Severe weather in Cornwall, England
    -Heavy rain and gale-force winds have hit Devon and Cornwall area of England.
    -Environment Agency has put 12 rivers across Cornwall and Devon on flood alert.
    -Met Office has issued a yellow warning for rain and severe gales.

Recent Earthquakes 
  • M 5.7 moderate deep earthquake in Peru (@ 112 km depth) with epicenter located 93km WSW of Orcopampa. Light shaking of MMI IV will have felt by the people of Mungui, Incuyo, Iquipi, Cahuacho, Quicacha, El Cardo and Camana. People of Arequipa, Nazca, Mollendo and Sicuani will have felt weak shaking of MMI III.

  • M 5.6 strong earthquake Off the west coast of northern Sumatra (@ 12 km dept) with epicenter located 476km (296mi) WSW of Sinabang. Weak shaking will have felt by the people of Banda Aceh and Sigli.

  • M 6.8 huge deep earthquake in Northern Mariana Islands (@ 602 km depth) with epicenter located 39km W of Agrihan. People of Northern Islands Municipality - Mayor's Office, Saipan, JP Tinian Town pre-WW2 and Guam will have felt just a weak shaking. No Tsunami danger.

  • Flooding in Attawapiskat, Canada
    More than 400 people have been evacuated after flooding in Attawapiskat, Ontario, Canada.
    -Evacuated people are living in Thunder Bay, Fort Frances and Greenstone, ON.
    -Basement flooding and house damage have also been reported.

Recent Volcanic Activity
  • Alaska/Pavlof recent volcanic activity
    Tremors have been detected at Pavlof Volcano combined with a strong thermal anomaly, the Alaska Volcano Observatory says.

    As of 12:00 UTC, TC Mahasen was located 484 nm south-southwestward of kolkata, India.

Natural Disaster News
  • A boat carrying about 200 Rohingya Muslims has capsized off western Myanmar, Aljazeera says quoting UN officials. The victims in the boat were escaping Cyclone Mahasen which is expected on Thursday and Friday but struck rocks off the Pauktaw township in Rakhine State and sank.   • Massive earthquake with destructive Tsunami beneath the Arabian Sea at the Makran subduction zone is expected. New research carried out by scientists from the University of Southampton and the Pacific Geoscience Centre, Natural Resources Canada claimed that there is greater risk of earthquake and Tsunami in Western Indian Ocean. Subduction zone is capable of producing earthquakes up to magnitude 8.7-9.2, Planet Save reports.
