Recent Natural Disasters
  • Red alert for Copahue volcano
    -A red alert has been declared by Chilean and Argentine authorities and ordered the mandatory evacuation of a 25-km (15.5-mile) radius around the Copahue volcano.
    -
    Around 2,240 people are expected to be evacuated in Chile alone.
    -Similarly in Neuquen province of Argentina, some 900 people are ordered to evacuate the area. All schools are closed in the municipality. Click for detail report on Copahue volcano.
  • Flooding in the Yukon River community, Alaska
    -At least 100 people have been evacuated due to  flooding in the Yukon River community, Alaska.
    -Two emergency shelters have been set up in Galena at the old school and the Air Force base.
    -Flood warnings were in effect for Galena, Hughes, and Buckland.


Recent Earthquakes 
  • M 5.5 strong earthquake Off coast of Kamchatka, Russia (@ 40 km depth) with epicenter located 129 km SE of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy. Weak shaking will have felt in the coastal area.

  • M 5.6 strong earthquake in Panama (@ 11 km depth) with epicenter located 12km SSW of Guabito. Strong shaking of MMI VI will have felt by the people of Guabito, Changuinola and Sixaola. Click for detail report on Panama earthquake.

  • Flooding in Jakarta, Indonesia
    -
    Jakarta Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) has predicted heavy flooding accompanied with lightning and strong winds in Jakarta in next two days.
  • Flooding in Accra, Ghana
    -Heavy rainfall has caused flooding in Accra, the capital and largest city of Ghana.
    -Intense rainfall and storm occurred for more than 45 minutes.
