Washington, Illinois tornado kills 5, injures 37


At least five people have died from tornadoes that hit central and southern Illinois.

Tornadoes killed an elderly couple in Nashville, another person in Washington and two more people in Massac County, the Illinois Emergency Management Agency said.

At least 37 people have been injured by the Illinois tornado with majority of them having treatment at St. Francis Medical Center.

Severe tornado damages have been observed in Washington.

Tornadoes warning even prompted officials at Chicago's Soldier Field to evacuate the stands and delay the Bears game.

At least 230 flights have been cancelled from Chicago's O'Hare airport.

The Illinois National Guard has send 10 firefighters and three vehicles to Washington to assist with immediate search and disaster recovery operations, ABC News station reported.
